We moved here late Feburary and as of today have yet to find a affordable house to rent. Our previous landlord had decided not to renew our lease (really it was the property manager) and FEMA was very helpful to get us into the camper.

We are approaching a year since Ivan blew through ... in mid July Dennis gave us the westside so we here in Warrington were spared more damage.

I have heard it said more than a few times by the "weather guys" that we can expect a very active season and they have increased their numbers ... so, I am hopeful that we can make it through ... and I am hopeful because of my God

This is the hertiage pine that was damaged by Hurricane Ivan. We are witnessing the death of a remarkably beautiful tree.

Looking Back

It has been well over a month since Hurricane Ivan. As I write I can hear the sound of heavy equipment outside on the avenue. Mountains of trees down and damaged have had to be removed and so much still remains. Our neighbor across from us still has a backyard full of trees that have to be removed. Blue tarps are a very common sight ... roofers will be busy for months to come. We heard that out on Pensacola Beach over 800 homes are not to be inhabited until major repairs are made ... alot of sand ... the storm surge wiped out so very much that I am still at a loss to describe the destruction. Two blocks from us is Davenport Bayou, over one third of our neighbors were flooded with 4 to 6 ft.

For us, we know that we are blessed by our Father in heaven and that He faithfully listened and responded to our prayers. We know this because of our faith in our Lord Jesus. It was not luck that we survived being in our home with the winds that battered and broke and moved the gulf waters.

We decided to stay in the house for several reasons. The house is a brick duplex and is build up about 2 feet and is in the middle of the block ... this was important as when the bayou surged the water moved down the streets and we were somewhat blocked. Both of our neighbors to the east and west of us took about 1 1/2 to 2 feet of water. Our porch shows the water line about two inches short of breaching. Another reason is "Scrappy" ... the rat/jack russell terrier ... am so very thankful that he stopped barking around 10 p.m.
